Examples Of Courageousness In To Kill A Mockingbird
Atticus says to Jem that he wants his son ââ¬Å"To see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his handâ⬠. Courage is simply defined as having strength and power when faced with any problem thats frightening. Courageous people show characteristics such as being fearless, daring and bold. Courageousness is expressed greatly throughout ââ¬Å"To Kill A Mockingbirdâ⬠by Atticus and his kids. Although they did show a lot of courage by standing up to those who sought to bring down the Finch name, others in the novel showed courage as well such as Arthur ââ¬Å"Booâ⬠Radley, Tom Robinson, and Mrs. Dubose. Atticus was greatly put down by the people of Maycomb because he was defending a black man, Tom Robinson, whichâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Not only Jem but Scout showed courage as well much like the time she kicked the man belonging to the angry mob surrounding Atticus that grabbed Jem by the collar and threatened him. Eve n then Jem resisted to go home and stayed by his father which was very noble and bold. For the kids, courage was learned by growing up by growing up and having to face difficult obstacles throughout their childhood. On another hand, Miss Maudie had always been courageous just like when those ââ¬Å"foot-washing Baptistâ⬠bothered her about mending her flowers. They told her that she shouldnt spend all that time outside in her yard she should be inside learning gods words. She didnt let them bother her and when they yelled bible verses at her, she replied back with other Bible verses Also another act of courage was when her house burnt down during that harsh winter. All her possessions were burnt in the fire along with her whole house. Although the fate of living without a home did occur to her she did not care. When Jem and Scout asked if she was ok she replied with shes fantastic and she ââ¬Å"has more room to grow azaleas nowâ⬠. She stays calm in the face of danger and thats what makes her so courageous. Arthur ââ¬Å"Booâ⬠Radley had rarely faced any real danger except in his childhood when he was ââ¬Å"mixed up with the wrong crowdâ⬠, after that his father kept him inside most of his life so he could be protected from the outside world.
